John Byrne Cooke

John Byrne Cooke (born 5 October 1940 in New York City, New York [1]) is an American author, musician, and photographer. He is the son of Alistair Cooke, and the great-grandnephew of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

In the 1960s, he played with the bluegrass band, the Charles River Valley Boys, [2] and was Janis Joplin's road manager from 1967 until her death.

He has written several Western fiction novels, and book reviews for the New York Times, Washington Post, Book World, and the Los Angeles Times.

Cooke has lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming since 1982.
